open_basedir restriction in effect?
« on: February 17, 2013, 04:16:10 PM »
Hello everyone!

I am new to this Forum because I've got a Problem with the RSGallery2.

I've installed the Component through the control panel and everything works fine, but there is one major Problem:

I have started a new Galery called "Handball" and wanted to add some Pictures. I have then uploaded one sample Picture and got the Errormessage you can see in the attached File. This Message appears also on the Galery-Administration and I don't know how to solve the Problem.

The Joomla-Installation is quiet fresh, I only installed a Guestbook, a Visitorcounter and some Facebook-Addons.

Systeminformation:
PHP erstellt für: Linux web03-08.local 3.4.24-20130109-1206-f13975a #1 SMP Wed Jan 9 12:07:26 UTC 2013 x86_64
Datenbankversion: 5.1.63-0+squeeze1
Datenbankzeichensatz: utf8_general_ci
PHP-Version: 5.3.21
Webserver: Apache
PHP-Interface für den Webserver: cgi-fcgi
Joomla!-Version: Joomla! 2.5.9 Stable [ Ember ] 4-February-2013 14:00 GMT
Joomla!-Plattform-Version: Joomla Platform 11.4.0 Stable [ Brian Kernighan ] 03-Jan-2012 00:00 GMT

I hope someone can help me, because the RSGallery is realy nice and simple enough to be managed by my Girlfriend  ;D

With greetings from Germany,
Aurelanius

PS I apologize for my bad english.

Did a bit of googling to find out what such a message could mean and this is what I've learned:
The warning is "Warning: file_exists(): open_basedir restriction in effect." which then tells you what path is being tried to open that is not allowed and then what paths are allowed.

I see a lot of posts where a site was moved and then the paths weren't correct anymore, e.g. this post: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=622&t=710302.

In the Joomla Docs there is a bit about the PHP setting open_basedir: http://docs.joomla.org/Security_Checklist_2_-_Hosting_and_Server_Setup#Consider_Using_PHP_open_basedir

And in the PHP manual: http://www.php.net/manual/en/ini.core.php#ini.open-basedir.

In my own setup there is no open_basedir judging from the PHP info (Backend > Site > PHP Information > Setting: open_basedir) and I have no experience with this. By the way, this page also tells you where to find your php.ini file "Configuration File (php.ini) Path" where you might be able to change the open_basedir setting?

Can I suggest you
- to check the PHP open_basedir setting (what is it?)
- if needed, correct the Path to Temp Folder found in Backend > Site > Global Configuration > Server
- if needed, correct the Path to Log Folder found in Backend > Site > Global Configuration > System
- if this does not work, either Google a bit on this or contact your webhost to help you?
- and finally: report back with how you got this solved when you get this solved...
With a little boy in the house I don't spend as much time on RSG2 anymore.

I still like RSG2, if you do too, please think about how you can invest some of your time in RSG2... the one remaining coding volunteer (Whazzup) can use your help!

I don't know how this error occurred but I could solve it. I also don't know if my solution is unconventional but I did the following:

I searched in all configuration files to the file called "status_owner.png". It was located in a commandline in config.rsgallery2.php.

The problem was that the path to the file looked like this: /.../.../components/com_rsgallery2/images/status_owner.png. I've changed it to http://www.jenny-seidel.de/components/com_rsgallery2/images/status_owner.png and now the error is gone.

I think it is a Problem with the webhoster (one.com).

But anyway, thanks for the Help!  :)

I wonder if you checked my first three suggestions and what you found there... Remember that you now hardcoded your webaddress in the code and that this won't work if you ever want/need to move your site.
