Perhaps with Joomla 2.5 it might be possible to get paid users that go in specific usergroups (perhaps in this JED catagory? http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/e-commerce/membership-a-subscriptions). Then one might create Access Groups in J2.5 in such a way that only a specific group can acces a specific gallery (and its subgalleries) where the view access is set for that group?
